ALL COURSES ARE FULL FOR FALL SEMESTER

The Master Craftsman Program offers studies in two major areas of study, Methods & Materials and Stained-Glass. Each of these two tracks contains 3 levels of study, for example Stained-Glass I, II, and III. With each progressive year more detailed knowledge is taught to the student. Both courses cover the many aspects of each track, ranging from design all the way to the business of selling your works of art.

Graduate Craftsman I, II, III
The focus of this study is to provide hands on experience with the MCP materials and resources. The skill set you’ll be learning is basic modeling, rubber mold making, plaster, cold material casting, plastic casting, paper casting, wax casting, body casting techniques, contemporary issues, and business records. In addition to the materials, you be taught advanced techniques and use of state-of-the-art machinery. The purpose of this course is to teach you new skills, which you may utilize in your own artwork and apply towards employment in production related fields. As instructors, we are collaborating to provide a diverse and unique educational experience, one in which we are focused on student success, which we define as a student's ability to continue to produce work, with Art Department Faculty serving as instructors of record. As part of a progressive approach to teaching sculpture at the graduate level, we want to provide every opportunity to figure out “what’s next” while still in school. That is a function of university, to provide the skills needed to succeed.

Stained-Glass I, II, III
This unique medium has been praised for centuries as one of the highest forms of art for its treatment of light as a transmissive force instead of a reflective one (paintings reflect light while glass transmits it). In Stained-Glass I, the student receives insight into various methods of glass-staining, glass carving, and assembly. The next two courses go further into each subject and also include glass design and business.

Methods & Materials I, II, III
New materials are emerging from industry every year and the integration of these into art is a focus of this course. Mold-making, casting, and finishing are just a few of the methods that will be taught in this exciting program. A portion of the course also covers stained-glass.
